Recent immigrants to Canada from the UK, the Red Dirt Skinners (a.k.a. Rob and Sarah Skinner) are to kick off a cross Canada tour in support of their forthcoming album Under Utopian Skies (out 09/28) with a show at the Town Hall in Marmora, Ontario on 29 September; the town they’ve recently made their home.
The Red Dirt Skinners first performed in Canada in the summer of 2015. They fell in love with the country immediately and were very well received by the audiences here. After applying to Canadian immigration it was deemed that they were “performers of a world class level”. They were invited in the summer of 2017 to become permanent residents. The duo have chosen their new home town of Marmora to be the location of their album launch. When asked why, they responded; “ We’re not about big cities and ‘becoming famous’, we’re all about building communities and sharing our music.”
The Red Dirt Skinners first came to prominence in the UK in 2012 where a break in at their home caused them to write a collection of heart wrenching songs on their ironically named ‘Home Sweet Home’ album. After becoming the first band in history to succeed at the British Blues Awards and the British Country Music Awards, the duo’s fifth album, Behind The Wheel (2016) was named Folk/Roots album of the year in several polls across the UK and North America.
The forthcoming album, Under Utopian Skies, is a collection of songs that show that the duo are clearly at peace with their decision and a testament to their love of their new home and country.
